About Us
Wayuu by María Mónica The Heart of Colombia in Every Thread.
Wayuu by María Mónica is more than a brand — it’s a tribute to the vibrant artistry of the Wayuu people, an indigenous community from La Guajira, Colombia. Each Wayuu mochila is handwoven using ancient techniques passed down through generations.
No two bags are ever the same, making every piece a unique work of art that carries the soul of its maker.
Our Story
I’m María Mónica, a Colombian living in South Africa, deeply connected to the traditions of my homeland. I grew up surrounded by the colors, patterns, and culture of the Wayuu people.
Their craft is not just fashion — it’s a language of symbols, a celebration of nature, family, and resilience. When I moved to Pretoria, I wanted to share a piece of Colombia with the world. Wayuu by María Mónica was born from this dream — to connect people to authentic Colombian craftsmanship while supporting the artisans who keep this heritage alive.
